DROWNING TRAGEDY
On Thursday last week Edith Fuller (6) was drowned in the Thomson River about 6 miles from Muttaburra. Mr. and Mrs. Fuller and children including their daughter (Mrs. V. Little) went to the river for a day’s fishing. During the morning Mr. Fuller went searching for tent pegs, and Mesdames Fuller and Little stayed over the bank away from the water. When asked where their sister was the other children said Edith had followed her father, and upon his return after about 20 minutes, he stated he had not seen her.
He and three others who came down to fish searched along the river, and later the police were assisting, and with the Council boat and grappling irons, the river was dragged. The search continued till 11 p.m. and resumed again on Friday morning, when Mr. A. T. Findelator found the body about five feet from the water’s edge where they had been fishing. It is believed that the child went down unnoticed to look at the fish which had been caught. The funeral on Friday was largely attended, the school children marching in the Cortege. Mr. V. F. Larsen officiated at the graveside.
