Langdon (Snr), William Henry

William was born at Ellendale Victoria the son of James Conway Langdon and Eleanor Cookson Nance.

William came up from a property called Adelong in Victoria to be Overseer at Mount Cornish. While he was at Mt Cornish be bought the Butcher Shop in Muttaburra and took up Angora Park which was Crown Land. He also took up a block of land calling it, Adelong, north of Aramac. [Source: William Conway Langdon – Grandson] This is stated in the 1913 Pastoral Directory, running 6,500 sheep and 10 cattle. In 1925 he still was involved in Adalong running 2,800 sheep and 250 cattle.

William was residing in Muttaburra on the 1893 Electoral Roll. He first bought the block of land in Sword Street, Muttaburra with a house on it. Emily Weir lived there for awhile. In the 1903 Queensland Post Office Directory, he was stated as a butcher at Muttaburra and being involved in Barcoorah Station, north of Aramac. On the 1922 Electoral Roll William was listed as a butcher of Muttaburra.

He was 83 when he died giving his address as Adelong Station Aramac.

Bridget, his wife, was 52 when she died in Brisbane and is buried in the Toowong Cemetery – Portion 15, Section 15, Grave 35.
